A Shield Against Malaria for Vulnerable Families
In response to severe malaria rates, Lifeline launched Operation Mosquito Shield, delivering over 1,500 preventative items to two unprivileged communities and creating a safer environment for children and families.
Overview
Malaria remains a life-threatening reality for many families in unprivileged communities. To combat this, Lifeline identified two communities, including orphanages, suffering from severe malaria outbreaks and took decisive action. Our goal was simple but urgent: provide a powerful, multi-pronged defense against mosquitoes to drastically reduce infection rates and protect the most vulnerable.
- Audience: Two entire communities, including orphanages, identified as high-risk for malaria.
- Focus: Large-scale donation of malaria prevention tools and education on their effective use.
- Impact: Safeguarding hundreds of individuals, especially children, from a preventable disease.
Objectives
The project was designed with clear, life-saving objectives:
- To immediately reduce the risk of mosquito bites by providing a comprehensive toolkit of preventative supplies.
- To achieve a drastic and measurable reduction in new malaria cases within the targeted communities.
- To empower families and caregivers with the tools and knowledge to maintain a malaria-free living space.
- To bring peace of mind to parents and guardians, allowing children to sleep safely at night.
Activities & Events
Operation Mosquito Shield was a swift and targeted logistical effort. After identifying the communities most in need, our team procured and organized a massive donation of supplies for distribution.
- Mass Procurement: We sourced large quantities of high-quality preventative materials to ensure every family was covered.
- Donation Drive: Our team visited the two communities to officially hand over the supplies, including mosquito nets, coils, and insect-reprellent sprays.
- Community Education: During the donation, we provided demonstrations on how to properly hang and maintain the mosquito nets and the most effective ways to use the sprays and coils for maximum protection.
Impact & Metrics
The scale of the donation provided an immediate and effective shield against malaria, with reports from the communities indicating a sharp decline in infections.
- 500 insecticide-treated mosquito nets were distributed, providing nightly protection for families.
- 1,000 mosquito coils were supplied for ongoing, nightly use in homes.
- 100 cans of mosquito spray were donated for immediate space-clearing action.
- Community leaders reported a drastic reduction in malaria cases in the weeks following our intervention.

FAQ
Why donate a combination of nets, coils, and sprays?
This multi-pronged approach provides comprehensive protection. Nets offer a physical barrier during sleep, coils provide ongoing area denial for mosquitoes, and sprays offer immediate action to clear a room before bedtime.
How did you identify the communities in need?
We worked with local health workers and community leaders who provided data on areas with the highest reported cases of malaria, ensuring our aid went where it was most critically needed.
How to Support
Help us expand Operation Mosquito Shield to more communities. Your donation can purchase more nets, coils, and sprays, directly contributing to the fight against malaria and saving lives.
